Founded in 1891, Hyde Park was originally designed and marketed as a lush, spacious suburb just north of downtown Austin with its own streetcar line and artificial lake. Although the streetcar line and lake are no longer there, Hyde Park has nonetheless managed to balance historical preservation with modern urban influences and maintain a unique atmosphere all its own. Hyde Park is currently home to many young business professionals working downtown as well as more than a few University of Texas professors and students.

  Hyde Park boasts a number of wonderful restaurants and businesses that have become popular Austin hot spots over the years. The Hyde Park Bar & Grill cooks up some of the best fries in town and is great for casual dining and hanging out with friends. Nearby Asti Trattoria serves up a sophisticated, sleek cuisine, and Mother's offers a wide selection of tasty vegetarian dishes and alfresco dining. There are also numerous theatres, art galleries, and live music venues within close proximity to the Hyde Park neighborhood.
   

Hyde Park Schools

  Hyde Park is part of the Austin Independent School District, and feeds into Lee Elementary, Kealing Middle School, and McCallum High School.
