Lake Travis spans an area of over 60 miles in length, but it is the south end of Lake Travis that is the most developed and popular part of the lake to live. South Lake Travis is less than 20 miles from downtown Austin and is home to some of the most desirable and luxurious neighborhoods in Austin.

The north shore of Lake Travis is quite different from the south shore of Lake Travis. The north shore tends to be less commercialized and less crowded. Depending on exactly where you're at on the north shore, you could be as close as 45 minutes from downtown Austin or well over an hour away. Real estate tends to be a little less expensive on the north shore of Lake Travis, especially as you get farther away from Austin. However, as property on the south shore of Lake Travis becomes more scarce, prices on the north shore are sure to rise as well.
